Has any one played with drafting behind a big rig with the active cruise?
Would be interesting to have a long nose "pete' pull you down the road on a long haul. Which distance setting mark (HUD) might yield the best MPG?

The Mythbusters tested this one out and verified there are fuel savings to be had. See this link:

Looks like 10 feet is the magic number per their tests. I did this once through the Arizona desert in my E30 when low on gas, and not knowing where the next exit was that would have some. I pulled up to within 6-8 feet, and put it in neutral and see how far I could go before I fell back. I don't remember how far it was, but there was a definite benefit. I can't say how well it worked, but it was a thrill.
Having a CB radio helped. I contacted the driver before I did this and let him know what I was up to. I wouldn't try it any other way.

Ouch! I can't imagine ten feet or even fifty.
Back in the 80s and 90s I drove several Lincoln Town Cars on the big roads about the southeast. They had real time mpg readouts. Seems like I saw a change in mileage out about four to five car lengths behind the trailers. (My TCs would not last 10 seconds in neautral!)
Seems also like if standing beside the road when a rig runs by, the blast is at least a truck length behind. Not sure if that observation is relevant
The NASCAR guys get up close but their "rigs" pull a much smaller shadow.
