use the search function mate... there is tons of info written about this!

you will feel significantly less power, you will hear a quite "boomy" sound from the engine (most noticeable when you start from traffic lights), like if your exhaust is broken, and the autobox will shift up a bit later in the rev scale.

On the 535d a regen is very subtle indeed. I rarely notice mine. If you do motorway driving the regen can happen while cruising and complete before you stop.

The only thing i have noticed is occasionally when i stop my exhaust is tinging and pinging, Do you think this is something to do with a dpf regen! like it was in the middle of doing it.

Yes those sounds may be an indication for dpf regeneration. The exhaust gets very hot during the cleaning sequence.
If you monitor the engine coolant temps in hidden menu, you probably notice an increase in temps as well.

Thanks at least i know it has been trying or doing them, i do a lot of mixed driving, some times just to the shops for a few trips and some times 15/20 mins on the bypass, but occasionally longer runs on the motorway.
