Hey guys, havnt been here on a while, but today i felt as if this place would give me the best advice for my situation.

I was drivng along in a parking lot, and another person was backing up and hit my E60 on the passanger door. At first the damage seemed really bad because of all the sand and salt from his rear bumper had rubbed off onto my door... BUt after i cleaned it up it turns out its only a big dent. So basically, he has agreed to pay for the whole thing, since it was indeed entirely his fault. However, he would rather not do it through insurance. My question is, since the car is leased, do i need to report that the car was involved in this accident? Also if anyone knows what the costs might be, im taking it to a couple of places tomorrow morning for estimates, but I want to have an idea before i get in. Once again its merely a large dent in the passanger side door, also, it seems to have popped out of allignment, so that will have to be done as well... As far as the paint goes, looks like some touch up will do the job.

Since the accident was 100% the other driver's fault, and your damage could be more extensive than you think, and your car is leased - I would insist on making a proper accident report and having his insurance pay all costs. Why agree to not using insurance? You have nothing to gain, and a lot to lose doing that. Get it fixed properly. His problem if his insurance goes up, not your problem.

What do you stand to gain from not reporting it? Call your insurance company and discuss this with them.

Too many examples of people backing out of their commitment once you part ways - especially if they find out that what they thought would be a couple of hundred $$'s winds up to be more. If the person doesn't want to report it to insurance or police - MAYBE there is a reason ???

Yeah - I'm with everyone else here. The insurance is your protection that everything is covered. If he becomes an a$%hole about it you would have no protection. There is nothing in this for you to keep this a secret and you have lots of risk. He already has shown he is careless with his driving. You are not being a jerk by following the proper rules of engagement in a collision situation. Good luck.

Well, the thing is, even though he admitted it is his fault and agreed to pay, what if my insurance premium for some reason rises... I am a young driver and i dont want my insurance premium to go up just because of the fact i was involved in an accident... I've heard in some cases with new drivers, that if they indeed do get into an accident, regardless of whose fault it is, premiums will go up.

What he told me that is if it is alot of money, then we will definitly go through insurance... We will decide once a couple of estimates have been given... I just dont want to spend a singly penny on this damage. Correct me if im wrong. But i was driving through a lane in the parking lot, he wasnt looking and backed up into my car... That should be entirely 100% his fault. The fact that the damage is on the door as opposed to the front corner clearly shows that i was the victim.

You mention that your car may be out of alignment, if you were hit that hard...call your insurance and make sure your car gets completely fixed.

Good luck!
