Does Steptronic Start Off In First Or Second?

My Ride: 2004 545i Sport, ti silver/gray, CWP, Logic 7, PDC, Nav, elec shade, lumbar, FDRS
2000 Honda CBR 929
1999 Lexus GS400, Nakamichi
When in Drive position, does Steptronic start off in first or second gear? I don't think the manual is explicit.

My Ride: '04 530d Executive, all options except sunroof and comfort seats
ECU remapped by ZipTuning to 260+bhp.
In D: 2nd
In DS after coming to a stop: 2nd.
In DS after waiting 5 to 10 seconds on full stop: 1st.
In DS after coming to a stop: 2nd.

Second, but you can pop it into first if you want. I don't find a need.

In second gear.
If you want to be sure to start in first, pop the Steptronic over to the left and shift into M1. Turn off the AC and the DSC all the way and you'll get maximum thrust (yes I do it all the time).

No need to turn AC off it disconnects with WOT anyway.
