(I know you're still in "kidding around" mode but right now, you may want to think twice about your language and your sarcastic remarks...)

I haven't been on this board long, and even I don't like the "5er" thing...

Anyhoo- that said I think Lexus (Toyota) and Honda build fine machines. To deny that is to admit casual drug usage.
Their quality is first rate, and their vehicles are damn-near bullet proof when it comes to reliability. Just because they build vehicles for the masses, doesn't mean they don't build good cars. In my parking lot, I still see a lot of old (1992 - 1994) Honda Accords, Civics, Camry's- still running strong. I don't see very many of any other manufacturer's cars of that age- period. Sales have something to do with it, but- so does reliability and longevity. I mean, come on- the 1994 Accord and the 1995 Civic are the top two stolen cars in America. The fact that the cars are the Accord and the Civic should not surprise anyone. The fact that they are 15 years old, and still available in such high numbers, speaks volumes.

However- the thing about the Japanese Auto Industry is that they may think of clever add-ons - like the LS's buttons on the passenger seat, which allows the driver to adjust the passenger seat without having to reach over the entire seat cushion, power folding mirrors (Which Mercedes copied from them) and things of that nature. But, when it comes to major innovations, they are basically a cloning industry. The last truly inspired design I can remember coming from Japan was the 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, the 1994 Toyota Supra, and to a lesser extent, the 2002 Lexus GS430 and 2009 Nissan GT-R. In every other car of theirs, I can see someone else?s car.

I mean, if you take a look at the LS460L (Which I love by the way), it looks like they took a 2005 Lexus LS skin, and stretched it over the body of a 2002 BMW 745Li. Don't get me wrong, the result was a beautiful car. But, for some reason, the copy doesn't hold up (in terms of endearment) as well as the originals.

They have the ability to take an existing idea and make it better- and in some cases, far better, than the original copied design. But, when it comes to groundbreaking design, and long lasting appeal- I haven't seen many Japanese cars that have the ability to wow a person as well today (2009) as it could when it was new (5 - 10 years old)- with the exception of the aforementioned Japanese sports cars.

When I see a 1996 525i- or a 1989 750 iL, or a 1988 Mercedes 300 E, especially one the owner has cared for (exterior-wise), those are still beautiful, classy cars. But, when I see a 1996 ES300- a 1990 Q45, or a 1990 LS400- no matter how well it has been maintained- it still looks dated compared to today's cars. When it comes to being long-term classy- you can't beat German engineering from the 80's to present- and the engineering of the American Auto Industry in the 1950's and 1960's. Japan makes good, long lasting, value-retaining cars- they are just not "classic" yet...

One disturbing this I read circa 2004, stated a 1994 Lexus LS400 was more reliable (in terms of electronics) than a 2004 BMW 745... They stated that Germans come out with innovative electronics, but the Japanese some how takes the same electronics, and makes them function more reliably than Germany can.

I hope that's not true...

Took the 5 on a 1,000 mile round trip road trip this past weekend.

Overall- 3rd best highway car I have ever driven. (You just can't beat Cadillac Deville (DTS) or a Lincoln Town Car when it comes to the long rides on the highway... Sorry...

The best in terms of a balance between luxury and performance.

Yeah, my ride is stock and I keep it clean. I really like the stock look more than that every car design (worth mentioning) had a design direction and a target aududience. If this guy thinks those 2 rides made his look cheap its obvious he made a stupid decision in buying a car that he doesn't really appreciate. Sell it and buy a Lexus aye hole.

Btw not the best idea downing the design of all our cars then saying something like "classy"... Again .... Aye hole

And it's the concensus around here now that the e60 DOES in fact look exactly like a civic!
I disagree. It's more like the civic looks exactly like an E60 since they copied the E60 and not the other way around.

I couldn't agree more, Rudy. It was one of the main reasons I decided to take a hiatus, even though it was brief. We can still joke around and have fun, but it would be nice to have this forum back to the way it used to be.
