Dang.. Choson1, you're the richer version of me and my brother. I have a 5 and he has a CLK, you have a 6 and your bro have an SL, although one of his CLK will probably pay for both of your cars over there, so unlucky for us, we pay about 3 times the price and get not even half as good cars... Poo.... No offense...

Have I missed out on BMW replacing the RPA system with individual tyre pressure sensors...?

AFAIK the RPA uses the ABS-sensors to measure the circumference of each wheel, and thereby detects any fall in pressure.

All you need to do for the RPA to function, is to reset it from iDrive, and then drive around for about 10 minutes allowing the system to calibrate.

beginning in mid year 2006, BMW changed their "Flat Tire Monitor" to a "Tire Pressure Monitor" system. it no longer senses rotational differences but uses actual sensors in the tires to detect loss of pressure. so, you now need to purchase sensors if you get aftermarket wheels. IMO, i think it would be much easier to disable the system altogether than to buy new sensors and have to go to a shop to install them.

To the contrary, I believe that the replacement is very easy. My wheel specialist will charge me $25 a wheel. He will deflate the tires, move them to one side, and put the sensors on.
The sensor looks like a little magnet. It sits on the inside of the wheel well, and its secured by the stem valve which screws into it.
It will take approximately 1 minute per sensor to attach (about the same time that it takes to install a regular stem).
I am glad to get my tires rebalanced on the hunter machine (locally) considering that my tires and wheels were sent to me from Michigan.

The dealership will not disable the sensor for you, and I am not sure there is a "fuse" for the sensor.

My total cost will be $270 (US) for new sensors and rebalancing. The total time will be one hour.
I cannot say that I would rather disable the sensor and have a "less than perfect" vehicle to save the $270.

As I said above, you can even recycle the old sensors if you want to save the $170.

you have good points, and i agree if you like the TPM, that is the way to go. however, i'm of the opinion that a tire pressure monitor is pretty much useless unless you have run flat tires. i mean, who in the world couldn't tell if they got a flat? as for tires losing pressure over time, i am very vigilant with that and check pressures regularly. therefore, a TPM serves no function to me. most electrical systems in the car use a fuse, so i am going to try to pull the TPM fuse out and see if the error light turns off. i will share the results here

I just noticed your thread over in bimmerfest. Didn't get much attention. You came to the right place for the answer or somewhat of an answer.

someone replied to my thread at bimmerfest and said the TPM is tied in with DSC. so it cannot be disabled on its own. i'm gonna attempt to verify this and see what i can find out. i may have to install new sensors in the iforged...
