I have the bamboo with black leather and the bamboo is by far the thing I get the most compliments on.

IMO, definitely go for the gray on bamboo. It's a great color combo!
I like it much better than the gray on poplar.

I'm convinced. You'll see I have changed my signature -- bamboo here I come.

This is just a follow up on this thread, and more so a warning.
I finalized my purchase order at my dealer today. He had one car with bamboo and I was able to look at it.
As it turns out, I was not crazy about it in person. IMO it looks very good until you get it in bright light. I looked at all of your pictures in this thread and on the BMW website and it looked great. But somewhere I also saw a picture of it where the photographer used too much flash, and I didn't like that picture, so I had to make sure I saw it for myself.
The car I looked at in person today was in bright sunlight. Half of the interior was in the shade and the bamboo looked good. The other half of the interior was in the sun, and it did not look good to me. You could see too many of the imperfections in the wood. Also, there is more brown in the bamboo than I expected. I thought it was going to be a very dark shade of gray -- you know, anthracite.
I think everyone should consider this trim. It is very distinctive and it's definitely not the norm. But like all colors, be sure to try to see it in person before committing yourself. You may like it, or you may not.
