I always that only the 550 had the fly-by-wire (same as drive by wire???).. but accroding to cars.com the 545 does as well... Pls confirm.

Under the Hood
The 545i?s 4.4-liter V-8 engine features Valvetronic operation and drive-by-wire throttle; it develops 325 hp and 330 pounds-feet of torque. A 545i equipped with a six-speed-manual gearbox can accelerates from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 5.7 seconds, while the sedan with a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission requires only a tenth of a second more. The automatic unit incorporates Manual and Sport modes.

If the 550 has it, the 545 does too. The cars are exactly the same along with the engines, the latter just with a higher displacement.

I belive all e60s have drive by wire. its easier to make them all with it rather than to change the setup depending on the engine i guess.

i know that my previous '00 E39 540 had that as well,it's not a new thing anymore,so im sure it's a standart now on all BMWs,in the new MB SL500 and up they even went for the same technology for brakes.

BMW has been using drive by wire for a long time now... I dont know when they started but if you think about it... all cars now that have any sort of DSC should be using drive by wire as thats how it can modulate the gas for ya when you're losing control.

Keep in mind that unlike some competing cars, our cars do not have steer-by-wire which, in my opinion, is one of the reasons our cars have better road feel...

Don't the newer cars have some sort of brake-by-wire? The whole comfort stop and brake drying modes -- is it still all hydraulic?

AFAIK, Mercedes E class has brake-by-wire.
There is no European car has steer-by-wire because it's illegal
