It's a about a 50/50 mix.
Half are compliments and half are hate.
The kids are the most truthful with compliments such as:
"Yo, that shit is hot!!"
"Nice whip!!" or "Nice car!!!"
and/or the thumbs up.
Girls:
"Your car is puuurty."
"Is this a BMW?"
"Nice car, what year/model is it?"
Best hater comments received include:
"Why'd you buy THAT car?!?"
"Why are your wheels dirty?"
"You should have bought an M5."
"You missed a spot."
My responses are usually an enthusiathic and sincere "Thanks alot!" or "I try to keep it clean."

dont wanna offend anyone.. starts waving at me.. hes behind me on my right.. when the light changes im hoping he doesnt get near me, cause he seems intense about saying hi to me.. lol he gets closer..starts yelling!! "how fast is that car and you look absolutely amazing in it!!" im thinking "di*k" lol.. and i drove away...lmao.. quickly

Before I ordered the E60 I thought that I would get some negative comments as BMW has a bit of a bad reputation over here (drugdealer cars etc). Not that I really cared...
However, I have the car for exactly 1 year now and I did not get a single negative comment. Everybody is enthousiastic about it, strangers as well as people I know.
And somehow people are more polite in traffic too, as if they expect you to drive aggressively and then are happy if you don't (sometimes). Especially in Germany the E60 gets respect (Autobahn code of conduct).
