I'm like a homing pigeon, but my wife who drives the car 80% of the time can't navigate herself out of a paperbag....... .....I regret not getting it.

This is my second e60 with it. I like it a lot and would not order a car without it. I enjoy the convenience of being able to identify the best and quickest path to wherever I am heading. It saves a lot of time. I highly recommend getting it. Once you get it there is no going back.

I wouldn't buy another car without it. Why compromise? There are plenty of good used E60s out there with just what you want.

I have told myself that I will never again buy a car without nav - it's just too darn useful for local drives as well as long drives.

There are so many ways to skin a cat, though. We have got to the stage where the quality of the newer Garmins and tomtoms is such that they leave the OEM nav systems of many manufacturers in the dust, even more so when you start comparing the price you pay for them. There are numerous threads here on how the BMW system in the E60 does not perform as well as some of these newer portables. The added BMW goodies that come with the nav (as Rudy mentioned) would however sway me to keep looking for a car with it, especially when buying CPO, because the original owner of the car is going to have taken the hit for most of the added cost.

The is my 3rd E60, but first with built in satnav. I used to plug a TomTom 910 in. Having spent the extra to get built in satnav, I have to say I _love it_ and would now never buy one without it. Sure, it's not quite as good as the TomTom, but ultimately, if your satnav gets you from A to B, do you really need all the bells and whistles. I absolutely love the fact that it's built in. The radio mutes to give me directions, the directions and controls are all built in to the iDrive. If you get a car with satnav and the HUD option it is just amazingly good.

Do you "NEED" satnav? No. But then, do you "NEED" a BMW E60? If we all bought what we "needed" we'd be living in straw huts and taking the bus. Get what you WANT !!

I found a CPO2005 545i with 20K miles, Silver/Auburn, Logic 7, Sport, Cold Weather and Rear Shade. Asking price is $42K. This is almost the exact car I've been looking for, but I would prefer to have NAV.

I have been using a portable Magellan GPS for a while and I think it works fine, but I'm not crazy about having things stuck to the windshield or dash. I don't use GPS very often, however.

Do those of you without NAV wish that you had it? Should I wait for a car that has everything I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Regards to all,
Davey V.
Only you know if you need it or not, I hate my navi since i found out, that its disturbing me while driving more than helping me and screwing up my joy from riding. I only use it for last few kilometers of my trip to find some new adress i have never been on or if I am in some city I dont know well. While my customer base is not changing that much I can say that I am using the navi 1% of time I am driving, but must say sometimes it helps alot.

Why is it disturbing you? Are you talking about the voice prompts? If so, you can turn them off permanently (like I did on my cars...)

No, I found myself checking the map too often even if it is not necessary and can not unlearn that bad habit.

Just turn off the map or go to another display. If you have HUD, you'll see the arrow display right there telling you what to do next. If you don't have HUD, assuming your car is running the newer software, you can use the 'pop-up' feature to display the arrows prior to your next turn...

The only reason I got NAV was because of its integration with the HUD and Voice Command. I could easily accept a sweet deal for a car that did not have the NAV.....a Garmin works just as fine.
