You don't HAVE to use RFTs, but if you go to conventional tires, make sure you have a spare.

For the best handling tire, go with Michelins. For the best deal, IMHO, right now Continental DWS tires are the best. Check out what Falken and Hankook have to offer as well...

If you have a sport package, you probably don't have RFTs. If you have a spare tire in your trunk, you don't have RFTs. This is easy enough to check.

I had both ... Sport (ok Sport on and xi isn't really Sport) and I have spare. And I had Bridgestone RFTs (UHP Summer design) on 18" wheels. Replaced them for the cold weather with CSL Reps and General Exclaim UHP.

If you lease your car at time of lease return it must be fitted with tires that are equal to original equipment.

Your statement is not necessarily applicable to ALL E60's, so the best way to go is to just "make sure" that he has a spare without going into any debates.

I have a 2008 535i with a sport package...the style 124 wheels come with RFT's from the factory, however it's recc'd to go with non-RFT's when it's time to change tires as ride comfort will improve....

The OP is in California and as I understand it, all US E60's come with the spare, runflat tires or not... But always best to double check!

My 2008 535i did not come with runflats. It came with Goodyear Eagles RS-A mounted on 244 rims and a spare in the trunk. I am the second owner and have the build sheet from BMW. Currently have 18,000 km (11,000mi). Really like the tires and the handling combined with comfort.

US E60 2008 on up Sport equipped cars ALL have RFT sock from Factory... Dunlops Runonflat DSST's on 18" 124's
The 17" with all seasons come on Bridgestones

You don't have put RFt's on them.
I went with No RFT Max performance Sumitomo HTZ III's and for the 3 months I had it on them I really liked them a bunch!

Decent price, Very good dry very good wet , low noise, good tread ware ratings.
The BFG KDW II's/Neo's are awesome wet and dry, but are very noisy...I liked them to.

UK models come with Continental non-run flats on 19" rims fitted to M Sport models ,together with a space saver spare.
