Is DMTL pump important?

Is DMTL pump important?
I got an error that states that the BMW DMTL pump is having issues and may be leaking. there are lots of threads on this but i just have one question:
Do I need this pump to work or will the car continue to function?
My plan is to drive this car for another 6 months and then dump it. i am too tired of sinking money in to it, thus i just want it to take me to work and home with no more money dumped into it.
went from amazing car that was great for 10 years to 15 codes in just a few months...after a full suspension upgrade and now the tranmission is jerking.
