You've reminded me of an old joke...
A blonde was getting pretty desperate for money so she decided to go to the nicer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs as a handy woman.
The first house she came to, a man answered the door and told her,
"Yeah, I have a job for you. How would you like to paint the porch?" "Sure, that sounds great!" she said.
"Well, how much do you want me to pay you?" asked the man.
"Is fifty bucks all right?" asks the blonde.
"OK. You'll find the paint and ladders you'll need in the garage."
The man went back into his house to his wife who had been listening. "Fifty bucks! Does she know the porch goes all the way around the house?" asked the wife.
"Well, she must, she was standing right on it!" her husband replied.
About 45 minutes later, she knocked on the door. "I'm all finished," she told the surprised homeowner. The man was amazed.
"You painted the whole porch?" "Yeah," she replied, "I even had some paint left, so I put on two coats!" The man reached into his wallet to pay her.
"Oh, and by the way," said the blonde, "That's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

I guess it depends on the context of the statement
BMW vs. MB or Audi= "better"
BMW @ monthly payment, service, and/or mods= "expensive"
BMW independently= "BMW"
BTT: +3 for Bimmer ("Bim" as in "Dim") for cars and Beamer/Beemer for motorcycles. But I've been told with a German accent it's still pronounced Beemer regardless (that true?)

I would correct them much like swajames corrects people when they mispronounce his P-car. Sorry Steve I couldn't resist.
I actually correct people that say beemer and people that mispronounce Porsche...they both drive me mental.

I have a German last name. Being that my family now lives in the USA, we pronounce it in an anglicized manner. I once had a college professor that insisted on pronouncing it the German way. He told me that I, in fact, pronounced my name wrong! I replied that I didn't care what he thought was right, and that I insisted that he pronounce it my way.
I think all of us in America pronounce B-M-W "wrong" to a German, especially since the cars were made in Germany.
But personally, in regards to the Bimmer/ Beemer debate, I try to be careful and not come off as an elitist pompous know-it -all ass.
Because, in the end, anyone who buys a $60,000 car can (and will) pronounce it however the hell they want.

were ever they see the BMW Emblem, the response it Beemer.
Even the dealer is called Beemer Garage!!

I thought the deal was
Beemer = Car
Bimmer = motorad /Bike
that is what I have been told by many BMW car and bike owners down here....
also on another note for a car guy to call a PORSCHE "Porsch" is heresy, in german you pronounce every letter with the ei -ie exception....

But surely there is no right or wrong way as it's just slang anyway?
