Unhappy

I know it is Bimmer, but, do not want to come across as a know it all. Should I let them continue saying beemer or correct them?

There isn't necessarily anything to correct as the context is somewhat geographically sensitive.

In the UK, for example, it's perfectly OK to refer to a BMW as a Beemer. In the US, of course, that seems to be tantamount to heresy...

I'd let it go, but provided your friends aren't Brits I guess you can feel free to correct them

That is interesting. I thought all cars were bimmers and all motorcycles were beemers regardless of location?

I personally hate the word "Beemer", sounds pretentious and a bit dorky.

To me, both words draw a mental image of a pink-Izod-wearing, '80's preppy, driving a 3 convertible with his collar turned up .
When having to mention what the car is, I simply say it's a 535.

I'd let it go, otherwise you'd look like a snob.

If they know the right word, they'd use it. If they don't, there's nothing gained in pointing it out.

I would correct them much like swajames corrects people when they mispronounce his P-car. Sorry Steve I couldn't resist.

I actually correct people that say beemer and people that mispronounce Porsche...they both drive me mental.

You've reminded me of an old joke...

A blonde was getting pretty desperate for money so she decided to go to the nicer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs as a handy woman.
The first house she came to, a man answered the door and told her,
"Yeah, I have a job for you. How would you like to paint the porch?" "Sure, that sounds great!" she said.
"Well, how much do you want me to pay you?" asked the man.
"Is fifty bucks all right?" asks the blonde.
"OK. You'll find the paint and ladders you'll need in the garage."
The man went back into his house to his wife who had been listening. "Fifty bucks! Does she know the porch goes all the way around the house?" asked the wife.
"Well, she must, she was standing right on it!" her husband replied.
About 45 minutes later, she knocked on the door. "I'm all finished," she told the surprised homeowner. The man was amazed.
"You painted the whole porch?" "Yeah," she replied, "I even had some paint left, so I put on two coats!" The man reached into his wallet to pay her.

"Oh, and by the way," said the blonde, "That's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."
