I think this option is linked to the Car/Key mirror settings. My friend's mini doesn't unfold and he cannot fold/unfold with his key. On my car it unfolds automatically at high speed and I can fold/unfold with the key as well.

i believe the "auto unfold" kicks in at 35 mph.

That sounds more like it. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have reached 35mph in the short distance it took when I experienced my first auto-unfold.

I wish I had the auto-fold on lock, but I won't spend money to get it coded like that.

My 545i did not come with folding mirrors, though I find that option sometimes necessary, how much is it to get a pair of 545i mirrors that fold + coded?
