2005 545i SMG
So I was driving along earlier today, just cruising on a nice day. Suddenly I get this *BONG* sound from the instrument cluster, and the heads up display shows "Engine Misfire - drive moderately". and the CEL is flashing. So I immediately pull over, power on my Carly dongle (which I always leave pulled in, since it's a b**ch to remove), startup the diagnostics on the Carly app, and check DME for faults. I found 2B70, 2B71, and 2747. A quick google search tells me the disa valve has most likely failed. I then searched through my giant stack of BMW invoices from the previous owner and can't find any invoice stating the disa valve has been replaced. I know where I can get one quick and reasonably inexpensive, so the faults 2B70 and 2B71 should be solved.
BUT, my question is - can a disa valve failure cause a fuel-cut misfire on only cylinder #3? I am going back to the shop to clear the faults, pull the cylinder#3 spark plug and check it for damage, and will update after that.
*****UPDATE*****
Got back to the shop, cleared the faults, started the car and let it run for about 5 minutes. Rechecked for faults in the DME and found:
Motor Control:
Engine / Motor
Failure DISA
Code: 002B71
Misfire detection error summation
Code: 0029CC
Misfire detection cylinder 3 in 2 Firing order
Code: 0029CF
Ignition coil cyl. 3
Code: 002E26
DISA
Code: 002B70
Pulled the plug for cylinder #3 and it looks alright, smells a bit of fuel but not much. Plugged #3 coil harness connector back into coil and checked with spark tester, almost no spark at all. Removed coil #2, plugged into coil #3 harness connector, checked for spark --> nice blue spark from spark tester. #3 ignition coil = DEAD. Must be a coincidence that it failed at the same time as the disa valve. Dove through my P/O BMW invoices again, no record of coils ever being replaced. So it looks like I'll be replacing all the ignition coils and spark plugs just to be safe.

Pull the valve and inspect it. I had similar faults. Mine looked good so I just replaced the gasket and the problem was solved. Also there are rebuild kits out there too. A faulty valve can create all kind of faults. Since it's so easy to get too pull it and do a visual check. That is the only way you will get a definitive answer

Post updated, I'll order one of those DISA rebuild kits if I can find one. I've been googling for a while now and I can't find one mention of an N62 disa valve repair kit.

I think I'll just replace the whole disa valve, I found a new one for $750 CAD from pelican parts. The local BMW dealer wanted just over a grand for their disa valve. I'm going to put everything back together and wait until I get the spark plugs, coils, and the disa valve before I take anything else apart. I already have to replace the Bluetooth TCU and some parktronic sensors, may as well do this at the same time. Hopefully next weekend I'll have all the parts, I'll post some pics of the disa valve when I yank it then. Thank god this isn't my dd.
I pulled the DISA valve on my 545i last fall. I risked buying a used one on ebay and luckily it works fine. It was not a fun job. I ended up stripping one of the bolts holding the DISA on while trying to remove it from the back of intake. I took off center section plastic vents on the firewall and there was still not enough room to get the thing out. So...off came the upper intake, fuel rail, wire harness, etc... Might want to buy some new upper intake gaskets, just in case. Good luck! Best, Will

Just wondering if this disa valve is also known as the manifold adjuster unit bc i had all the same codes with my 04 530i and the plastic flap was broken off on the corner causing it not to close. I paid $167 online. I just looked and if thats the same part you need $700+ is way to much

I was replacing two front parktronic sensors to day, so I decided to replace all 8 coils and spark plugs today as well. Cleared the faults, and road tested the car. No problem or faults after a 2 hour drive. Too bad I already ordered the DISA valve.....
