I will be very interested to see what happens when you plug the 2009 lights and my V5.1 cables into another pre-LCI E60.

Could it be that the tail lights are different in function? I noticed that in NL, there are no 'two-stage' brake lights in the LCI (i.e. no second set of lights come on when you brake very hard). I understand that in some other countries the lights have this two phase function.
And furthermore, I recall that in my tail lights (original LCI on LCI car) the center light (fog light) was on (dim). Check the pictures in the thread from May 2007 (which you started btw

There is something not right here. People have bought BRAND new lights from Gary and things are working fine with my cables. So now I'm even more curious to know what happens when you connect your lights on another car.
