Hi cruisevirgin,

Leather top on the iDrive knob started on Sept. 2005 Production vehicles, along with start/stop button and DSC+ (Hill holder, brake drying -- whatever that means. Anyone care to explain this brake drying thing????)

Its when the car lightly applies the brake to dry out the brake pads when its wet for maximum stopping power.

Now how it sense wetness I dont know... Not sure if it actually uses a sensor to detect water on the brakes or if it just applies the brakes lightly once in a while if you have the wipers turned on. I've heard both...

only when it rains... however I do not know if there is an actual sensor by the brakes to check for wet or if it just uses the front winshield mirror wiper sensor thing

On a official MY '06 the iDrive knob is leather etc.

In US for some reason, the model year starts in March, but the official and actual MY starts always in Sept.

In Europe there's no exterior differances on '03 - '06 MY's. I'm not sure if the MY '06 have the chrome grill or not, but at least the V8's have had it since the E60 start.

What about the 525 engine. Does anyone know about changes to the 525 engine for 2004, 2005 and 2006?
