One of the key reasons diesels are so successful in Europe is company car policies, especially if the companies also provide fuel cards. This can bring big savings if a company has a big fleet and people doing lots of travel. A quick win. Are company cars also common in the states??

As for convincing people that diesels are performance cars, I agree, they don't really have that image. However thats changing pretty quickly over here with cars like the 535d and 335d (incl. coupes & cabrios). Furthermore, with the likes of Audi and Peugeot running diesels in the high-profile Le Mans 24hr race shows that the car manufacturers are working hard to change the image...
