I think as other's have said the 535d will almost definitely pull better from low revs than a chipped 530d and I would think drive much better overall. The 535d is ?4000 more expensive but within that you get an automatic gearbox as standard because BMW say the manual isn't capable of coping with the torque...you also get uprated brakes and the top spec A/C as standard. I would say those upgrade's combined are worth ?2500 so the real cost of the 535d over the 530d is ?1500. Add on the ?500 cost of chipping the 530d and the 535d is a no brainer at ?1000 difference! And not a warranty argument in sight....wouldn't want to get between a tuner and BMW arguing about who is responsible for what.

I still think if the next M5 is going to be in diesel form, that bmw can say goodbye to the petrol rivals. A big diesel! Voom Voom

Anyway... why is the discussion twin turbo *or* chip - what is wrong with both? :-)

Nothing wrong with either format, just wondered why BMW don't increase the power of their engine by simply remapping the existing. Surely it would cost them nothing and we would still pay the extra money for the power increase. I notice you have a 535d, have you ever driven the 530d?

That's right! There is newer too much power!

With 535d IMHO BMW has tried to make as smooth and civilised power diesel as possible.

Well, I think you are most likely risk a chance of getting transmission problems, as well as getting a pressure in the engine which is too high (there were some problems in early production phase, my dealer told me..)
Seriously, if more power would have been available in an easy and safe way, don't you think BMW would have done this?

Just a few simple words in my opinion:

Whatever you'll get, in the end it will never be enough. We're still boys aren't we?

For example: I stopped buying the newest and fastest and best handling bike each year, one year it was a yamaha then a suzuki and then a Honda. In the end it was me again in the hospital with no bike, an empty wallet and a bad feeling.
So I got myself something an oilburner: A 535d
So far i'm very happy with it and my wife will kill me if she'd even see me near an M5 in the showroom.

Hi Merv - yes, had one for a day as a loan car when mine was in having a couple of niggles resolved. Unfortunately it was an SE not a Sport, so I was mostly being humoured by how wallowy it was round fast bends, but it did feel significantly slower, especially as the revs rose.
