I have thought about starting to use some diesel additive for my E60. The low-sulfur diesel that we have in Sweden is quite dry and according to several diesel mechanics I have talked to an after market additive could improve both the performance and reduce the wear on my engine. Is there anyone out there that has experience in using this type of additives? I have thought about the Stanadyne Performance formula - it seems to be rather expensive but it seems as if several engine manufacturers approves the use of this additive (unfortunately not BMW though..). Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Oreo,
I have a couple of these products but am a bit nervous to use them.
They claim to be diesel conditioners.
One would like to think that the manufacturers of the diesel dont want claims against them for engine trouble due to their products and as such would have the correct additives already added.

I also think that the low sulphur diesel not contaminating your oil and causing high acid build up far outweighs the better engine life that and additive may bring.

I plan on doing some more research this side and will let you know what I find.

As a matter of interest, when your car is at idle in Park, is the rev counter needle absolutley stationary or does it wander up and down a little?

Cheers

Streak

Try using "BP ultimate" or "Shell V power diesel".
Less consumption.

I'd love to try it, but the only diesel that Shell sells in Sweden is their "City Diesel" and BP does not sell petrol or diesel in Sweden.... That is the reason I am considering other options to get the same result.

Thank you for the link. Any idea if this brand is sold under another name in other markets? The only diesel additives I have found in Sweden are Stanadyne, Red Line and Diesel Nectar. Anyone heard of these?

Ok, but what about the filtering system in the new Euro4 diesels.
Anyone knows if it could damage the filter?

I have read an article in a German automagazine about special test done by them with different cars for the diesel with additives sold at their tankstations. All proved to be not worth in terms of difference in price, consumption and performance.
