My Ride: 2007 550i, Titanium Silver/Black, 6-Sp Steptronic, Sport Package, HD Radio, Sirius, Premium Sound, GPS Nav, Cold Pkg, cell phone cradle, iPod through the AUX port 1976 Datsun 280Z, Charcoal/Black, 5-Sp Manual, A/C, American Mags, CD, Tom Tom 930 GPS (works better than the BMW!) and the rest is pretty much stock

.....That the 5 and 7 series BMWs come in an optional armored version? Geez, my dealer didn't mention that option. Check this out....

No - I didn't know and I doubt any of my friends with BMWs knew either. Here in the US we have problems with people flying airplanes into buildings, not with getting machine gunned in rush hour traffic. Might be a popular option in Iraq, though. I just thought it was a bit unusual for a new car to come from the original manufacturer built that way as opposed to being modified by a specialty shop. You won't see that option on the GM or Ford site!

They are expensive but BMW makes armored versions ..

They do, but in most countries these are not publicly available. Only to people with special needs in that respect, like e.g. politicians.

The reason is, that an armoured vehicle with also bullet proof tyres can easily be misused as an extremely dangerous getaway car.

i knew that, but now i would like to know about how much they cost or how much extra...
those should really be heavy cars anything less than a v8 would probably strugle with the weight...

Ya BMW always had them for quite a few of their cars but I dont think it sells in the US. I know they sell in Africa...

I remember seeing a E38 Protection for sale at a local dealer a few years ago. I walked around the car a few times and didn't notice what it was until I got a glimpse of the price. I was really impressed. It looked like any other 7 but upon closer inspection the give away was the really thick windows. The price was higher than the standard 7er but it was very reasonable for what you were getting.
