Did you guys know that you must have the key in the ignition in order to open the gas door. I almost was ready to rip out the door trying to pump gas the other day until it dawned on me let me put the key in the ignition and BOOM the door popped open.. I think its a cool feature so people can't tamper with your ride.. .. I'm just saying..

Same here - car just has to be unlocked - then "depress" the gas door and it pops open. If you "lock" the car while the gas door is open you can see the pin/bolt that pops out to lock the gas door in place. Then unlock the car and you will see the pin/bolt slide back.

No problem - I have actually had the inverse of the problem you were having - I have opened the gas door and then locked the car while the gas was filling. Doing this means the "pin" pops out while the door is open. On a few occasions, I finished filling the gas and then tried to push the gas door closed without having unlocked the door - it would bash into the pin and then I would realize I had to unlock the car just to shut the gas door...

From what I read if you lock the doors from the inside with the central locking switch the fuel door will remain unlocked. If you lock the doors with the key fob the fuel door will lock.

The key doesn't have to be in the ignition. I always turn off my car and take the key out with me when I pump gas. It's the door lock feature that will lock or unlock the gas lid as others have said.
