The list of parts sounds legit. I'd just give them the benefit of the doubt for now if everything seems fine. They either screwed you or went above and beyond in my opinion. Time will tell.

Just wondering but did they list the cost of the parts? I don't think they usually do if its covered under warranty but I'm just curious what the job cost.

I did not get a list of prices--I looked up the price of the new cylinder head on a BMW parts website, it was around $4,300..I didn't check any of the other parts....I would think, if I was out of warranty, this would have bee close to 6k out of my pocket...maybe a little less.

Since replacing the head is the identified fix for ticking that doesn't respond to new lifters, I would expect that there is a stock of new heads ready to hand in centralized locations. I have had parts arrive next day to my dealer - not at all unexpected or questionable. Sounds like great customer service for teh OP as well.

I've done a bit of reading on this infamous 'ticking' noise after reading this thread and it looks like a number of dealerships have a new head in stock for just this purpose as it's common. So I would bet they simply overnighted it. This was a great post in general as I have the same problem and now I know what the problem is.

Take a look of the videos I posted on YouTube so you can verify what the knocking sounds like...

but, know that, BMW won't immediately jump to changing the cylinder head...they will first try to place new Exhaust Valve Lifters..and if that doesn't fix the problem (like my case) they will put in an all new head for you.

Also, take a video of the knocking..and show the VIN # of your vehicle in the video..so you have proof it is YOUR car..and not just some video you grabbed from the internet...also, may be good to show your face in the video as well..just more proof.

I'm out of warranty, so taking it to delearship is not an option. I'll start looking out for newer model year N52s
