I am familiar with the MKI - MKIV NAV systems however I'm in the process of buying a new 5 and know very little about the newer NAV systems that ships with this model so I was wondering if anyone knew any details about it?
Also with the MKI - MKIV I am not restricted to buying the map cds
from BMW, is this also the case with the newer NAV systems?
TIA,
Simon

I'm not sure what details you are looking for. Basically, the E60 nav pro is a newer (possibly more refined) version of the older MKIV system. The biggest change, in my opinion, is the fact that it now uses DVD based map discs instead of CD based.
For us in the USA (not sure where you are Simon), that means one DVD gives us the entire country where before we had regionalized CDs.
The car comes with your first DVD so if you need others, I'm pretty sure you can buy them directly from NavTeq as before.
Hope that helps...

In France, DVDs has to be bought from BMW only, not Navteq. It costs about 280 Euros ($360). Not sure in other countries. Current version is DVD Europe 2005-1.

Thanks both for the comments. I'm in the UK and can currently get CD's for my MKIII from BMW, Navtech, VDO Dayton and TeleAtlas. I shall have to do some investigation re replacement DVDs for the E60

Simon
