Does a new MPM relay need to be programmed?

I've searched high and low. Most forums say it doesn't, others say it has to be programmed. If it is just a relay then no programming should be needed, right?

Anyway, thanks for any info.

Looks like it can go either way
Search "MPM". There's a lot of threads.

Thanks, I've seen most of these type of threads. I just want to know if and why the mpm has to be programmed. What does it actually do? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

As far as I can see, the MPM controls some audio, some I-drive, some alarm, blue tooth (I don't have it), and other SECONDARY functions. The MPM is a $175 part but the stealership was trying to charge me $1200 to replace and reprogram it. I don't believe them, because this particular dealership is known for their BS.

I had the MPM replaced shortly after purchasing my car and it needed to be programmed. Not sure of the cost but I think they only charged a couple hundred for the module and an hour and a half of programming time.

I have recently replaced mine, I lost the radio and had total idrive failure. I ordered the part and fitted it myself with no programming required.
