More and more I notice that I have to be closer to the car to operate the remote doorlock/unlock. My key is less than a year old. What could possibly be happening? I tried using the other key, but it did not help.

thanks,

k

I've got the same problem, it worked fine when I bought the car in April but now I need to be within touching distance of the car.
The car is still under BMW approved used car warranty so would the repair be covered under the warranty?
Anyone got any idea as to what might be causing the problem.

No one got any ideas?
I've searched the net but haven't come up with an answer.
The only possibilities I have found are:
water in aerial antenna amplifier or damaged aerial in rear window.

Anyone know where the amplifier unit is located?

Check if your remote is the type with a replaceable battery, your handbook gives details on how to replace it.

Both my keys are doing the same thing, so I don't think it is the remote fobs.
For info, my keys are the recharge in the ignition type.

No solution that I know of.

There is some talk of the keys not being charged enough if you do extensive short distances. (which we do) but we also do some really long trips frequently with no perceptible difference in the fob increasing radius afterwards

I agree,it must be a problem with the car "receiver",so it needs sorting out by the dealer under warranty.

Gosh! I remember a time before remotes when one had to actually put a key in the lock and turn it to unlock the car.

Most of my trips are highway trips with an hour of driving each way. I've logged over 40k miles in the past year. Like you, I don't notice the radius increasing after such trips. Do key batteries really charge when driving? Maybe on newer cars with fob keys and pushbutton starters.

I have had a history of problems with water in the battery compartment, so there is a potential there, for now it appears to be dry and I still need to be within a few yards of the car for the remote to work. I'm glad to see I have company, I hope someone who is still under warranty will take their car in and get an answer.

OK will mention when I take mine in towards the end of the month. This and the passenger side mirror losing its memory position and turning slightly towards the car (inwards) after the tilt function has worked while reversing.
never changes in any other axis
