Yikes, what a year 2008 was - not much good to report.

E60 sales in December were down 45% from the same month last year. Ouch. But this was the same experience for most vehicles - the Mercedes Benz E-Class fell 43%, and sales of all passenger cars dropped 34%.

For 2008, total E60 sales were down 'only' 15% from 2007. But MB E-Class sales were off 22% and the Infiniti M was down 29%. The new darlings of the midsize luxo segment can't keep up with the 5-series either. The Jaguar XF sold a meager 504 units in December (to the E60's 3,699). The Hyundai Genesis cranked out 1,040 units ... not too bad, but Audi was able to clear out 1,218 A6s. In fact, the Audi A6 was clearly the winner of this segment with sales essentially flat from 2007 to 2008.

The 2008 total E60 sales of 45,915 units ranks lower than any other year except 2004 (45,584 units). Keep in mind that the E60 has always outpaced its predecessor E39 in sales, even here in lackluster 2008.

MINI had a fantastic year with sales up 29% - no other brand even had a positive result. Well, Subaru sales were up 0.3%. VW and Audi held on well this year too (down only 3% and 6%, respectively).

Here are some notable model sales figures for 2008 (compared to 2007):
Audi A5 6,282 (na)
Audi A6 11,956 (-0.4%)
Porsche 911 8,324 (-33%)
Lexus GS 15,759 (-33%)
Range Rover Sport 11,239 (-34%)
Jaguar XF 8,086 (na)
Nissan GT-R 1,730 (na)
MB C-Class 72,471 (+14%)
Pontiac G8 15,002 (na)
Hummer H3 20,681 (-52%)
Corvette 26,971 (-20%)
Cadillac CTS 58,774 (+3%)
Smart ForTwo 24,662 (na)

sales of bmw's is horrendous at the moment.

being a car broker I see all types of bmw's at private auctions.
The two deals that caught my eye this week :

2005 530 i with 45k : sold for 17 grand . clean title , front line ready , not one scratch on the car
2004 545i with 30k , 6 spd : sold for 12,500 , srs light on and the front end was repainted but over all clean with no recon.

I bought my 530i four years ago with 42k for 31,500. Now I won't be able to get 23,000 for it retail.

lol...

Cars in general , especially bmw and mercedez benz are the worse when it comes to depreciation. I still love my car though!

Did the 2005 530 with 45k miles sold for 17k have the sport package?

I'm surprised at the poor 3 series performance, I guess the 1 series is the primary source of business...................
