I recently had a new set of non-run flat Toyo Tires put on my 2004 545i. I installed the Toyos after trying a set of General Performance Tires, which didnt have a lot of grip on turns.

After having the Toyos on the car was very very quiet, especially compared to the OEM Dunlop Run Flats!

The problem though is that steering wheel all of a sudden is not stiff any more & has a lot play in it. By 'play' I mean when you steer, there is a delay in the car turning! The steering wheel is very loose, and it almost feels if you zip through a couple of lanes, like I'm used to doing, I will undoubtedly loose control! Its so bad that I don't enjoy driving the car at all, as I feel unsafe, and just dont have the confidence in driving it the way I want!

I took it to the dealer, and they do not see any problem and say the play is due to milage, it currently has 140k Kms on it! I can't see that being true as the car was not like this on the previous set of tires! I suspect its the tires, but I have no way of proving that, and if I change the tires, the problem could still be there!

I would appreciate anyones help on this issue.

The only way to prove that the problem comes from the tires is to test drive the car on a different set of wheels. Maybe some local members can help you out with that. What is your location? (update your profile)
