I took my 525 into the dealership to take care of a few odds and ends under warranty. One issue I had was my rear speakers didn't sound all that great and had distortion when I turned the volume up moderately. I had thought that the prior owner blew the speaker and it would just need replacement. The dealer however indicated that the Amplifier for the radio was not working properly and would need to be replaced.

I'm thinking this is good news as I just thought the overall radio quality of the standard 525 was poor. Hopefully this will not only clear up the distortion, but actually put some bass and sound quality into my listening experience.

Question - Where is the amp located? I'm hoping it's not tucked behind the dash as I'd hate to get a new dash rattle with the replacement of the amp.

Thanks
CHris

Don't worry, the amp is located in the trunk behind the panel covering the left wheel arch. It's very easy to get to and shouldn't cause any rattles, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply. That's a relief.

I just did some more searching as well and found some pics of a mounted amp in the back of an E60. THIS IS A GREAT site.

I received a call from the dealer a few minutes ago and they indicated that they were having some problems 'reprograming the amp' ???

I know the radio is connected through the i-drive system, but I was thinking that the amp would be plug and play. No worries though, maybe I'll get a bell and whistle out of the software reprogramming.

Tough to complain when they fix everything under warranty and give me a loaner car to boot. So far, my experience with BMW service has been outstanding.

You'd be amazed at how many of the car's components have to be "married" to the car with some type of programming or coding...

Hope you get everything worked out!
