Not only Euro but must be different on each ... my '07 525xi can do it in the iDrive ... You had NAV/CCC in your car back then?
My car did have navigation, it was a may 2006 build.
I tried but couldn't switch back and forth on the DRL, the car manual also mentioned nothing about it..
On my 2010 the car manual mentions that you can switch the DRL off/on..

I just checked your build date.. your 2007 oct 06 build there was a change in the E60's I recall the Real Time traffic alert was added at that time which was not offered in my build date.
And I suspect the DRL on/off option was one of the features they offered at the time.

My Built date was 4/2006 on M5. I dont have daytime running lights or it never turned on...
I have it set to auto on the light switch.

DRL on/off in iDrive and a few other features for model year 2007 were phased in around 'build date' September 2006 ... 2007s were built starting in May/June 2006.

Exactly which lights are on during the day? I've never noticed them.

For LCI cars the angle eyes rings/halos are Daytime Driving lights which can be turned on and off in your idrive.
For pre-LCI cars the inner bulb ( the "?") is the day time running lights which can not be turned off or on by idrive but only by your dealer, except for cars built in September 06 which had some changes which I guess included the daytime running lights on/off options.

if you seriously want to turn it off cheaply if ur out of warranty, yank off the bulb, and put a pair of resistors there and ur good to go.

That's ghetto. Because you would lose highbeams altogether (for pre LCI only). Why would you do that?
