whilst trying to reset the microfilter service, i found this.
with the engine on (running) i held down the trip reset button for about 15 seconds and it displays the build date (says build datum 10.10.2005) and then a load of german script.....
neat..
also what is the "technical" name for the soft red lights that shine down onto the gear stick / i-drive controller ? (just curious)

BMW's have had the center console light for a long time.
I really do like it, it works swell and gives a luxurious feeling.

I just gave it a try... When you hold down the trip reset button there are a few different things you can scroll through.. none of which made any sense to me.. hahah... but I guess my build date is January 19, 2004 according to what I saw.. crappy iPhone pic below:

Litres in the tank, voltage of battery, real speed, temperatures, rpm, etc.
Never paid attention to that date, but I know my car born between 15 and 22 july 2005.

i found this around the a few month back goto ki-test and this is what you get
all the gauges move from left to right and back to original positions
