D1S or D2S?
I'm trying to replace my xenon bulbs to newer brighter ones, but can't figure out if I have D1S or 2S. I removed the old bulbs and it looks like the igniter is integrated onto the bulb, or I can't figure out how to remove the old bulb. I ordered D2S bulbs online already, since the outside of the headlight said it. I hope I ordered the right ones. Any ideas?

if there is a bright silver box about 1.5" x 1.5" attached to the bulb, you have D1S with an integrated igniter. if it is just the bulb with a black plastic base, it is a D2S.
interestingly, on my 2007 530, the silver shroud on my HID projector says D2S but my bulbs are D1S.

Well I'm in that boat. The silver shroud on my 2005 525 also said D2S, which I bought but now I figured out I have the D1S. Fantastic

Yea same thing happened here.. Ordered D2S bulbs as the chrome shroud had it written on it. Luckily when i ordered the D2S bulbs my internet card was rejected because i had forgotten to fill it up. Then thought it would be a good idea to check the bulb before i order again. On the barcode of the igniter there was an Osram serial number and D1S written next to it.

We have D1S in our car, curious to which brand of brighter bulb did you ordered?
I've tried Osram CBI, also 55w D2S upgrade kit, all yielding very minimal improvement when using with the pre-LCI headlights.
On the LCI headlights, the CBI bulbs makes a big difference. I want to do an LCI upgrade, but I don't feel that $$$ is worth investing into my car.

Has anyone ever considered or actually purchased these for their E60? I saw it and got interested.

Have you checked to see if the D2S bulb fits? Perhaps a previous owner put in D1S bulb in place of the D2S specified.
