i'm having some issues with cylinder 1 it seems. about five months ago, i changed all my spark plugs and got a P0301 code a month later. the spark plug was changed again, and a new coil was installed. the problem went away. just last week and just about everyday after driving for 10-20 minutes my car will go into "limp" mode and display engine malfunction on the i-Drive. after checking the stored codes with my reader the same P0301 came up. the independent bmw shop where i got the spark plug and coil installed said they have no idea what it could be (probably just dont want to go into a deep diagnosis) so i scheduled an appointment at another independent bmw shop to have them look at it. anyone have any idea what it could be? new coil and spark plug are in...all other cylinders are running fine...thanks

Replaced coil and spark plug already. Maybe its the injector?

Injector? I would swap the 1 and 2 coils to see if the misfire leaves. Possible that the new coil has gone bad already (I purchased a bad one from the dealer).

I would suggest that you switch the coil pack to cylinder #2. If you throw a CEL on that cylinder, you know the pack is bad.

thanks for the input all. turns out that the coil is bad. but it was just changed less then 6 months ago, i guess that it can go bad...

Also - I might need to change the air intake manifold, a code was in the system for an intake related issue. the dealership advised me of this and the independent shop that my car is sitting at right agrees with the read out from the dealership...thing is, they are going to get back to me and tell me just how critical it is to change it....not sure if it has anything to do with the misfire since it was isolated to cylinder 1?
