I think the E60 has a very good cruise control, it's almost flawless and I like the 1km/h / 10km/h step switch as well as the visible indicator (LED) on your speed meter.

However, this LED is always green when I have activated the cruise control. It never turns orange.

I know it's a 2 colour LED, see picture below which I took when I tested the instrument cluster. So the hardware is there but the orange LED never lights. Does anyone know why? Has anyone seen the orange LED light up on their LCI cars?

Ok, this may not be the most important thing in the world but as an engineer I just want to know why...

Mine does!
Green LED when activated but as soon as I touch the break pedal or de-activate the CC by flipping the stalk down, led indicator turns orange, still at same setting.

You said it would not be long before you started taking your car apart!!! I have not got a clue in relation to your question, but hope you can get the car back together okay!

Exactly how it's supposed to work...

+1. Mine is the same, although I would have described the later LED as 'Red' not orange from memory (pedantic I know) - will check next time I drive it.

It's the same orange color as the rest of the dash lights on pretty much every BMW made for at least the last few decades...

Hmmm, I'm not aware of a cruise control LED on my 2006 530xiT however I DO see a white marker at the set speed on the perimeter of the speedometer.

Is it only visible at night?

IF you have a 520d I think it might have something to do with that, it doesn't have the same cruise control as the rest of the range. It does not use the brakes when you're decreasing the speed etc.

The marker at the perimeter of the speedometer didn't illuminate (or change colors) on my 2004 car, only on my 2008 car.
