Anyone ever seen this?
The plate that holds the bottom part of the trunk lid spring has cracks
And the intire piece of metal which is holding the spring is flexing about 1" due to the force of the spring.
Pic 1:
This piece of trim plastic should be "under" the rubber seal.
Instead it´s flexing in and out as I open/close the trunk
Pic 2:
Here you can see the two cracks causing the problem.
The black metal piece seen at the top is the bottom part of the trunk lid spring.
Any solutions?

There must be something wrong with the spring or the piston inside is partially seized in the compressed position. Does the trunk open quickly like most E60 lids or does it inch up slowly? To cause metal fatigue like that indicates tremendous pressure.
BTW, are we talking about the right hand side spring without the adjustment bracket?

My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Something is definitely wrong there, my trunk does not open rapidly. The guys who usually have their trunks pop open very quickly are the ones that switched to carbon fiber deck lids. My trunk pops up about 6-8 inches then I can push it smoothly all the way up. Either that spring has waaay too much tension or there was previous damage (like from a rear end collision) to make it that way. It's pretty hard to get steel to buckle like that.

Hmm strange, I thought that all E60 trunk would open fully without any assistance.
Some owners even refer to the trunk as a "Jaw breaker" because of the powerfull trunk action.
I cant see any sign of a rear impact or any repairs. The sheet metal holding the bracket seems very thin. About 1-1 1/2 mm
It seems like a production/design error where the tension over time could weaken the metal. But then we would be seeing more owners with this problem.
