My Ride: 2005 Titanium Gray 545 Sport Package
Good afternoon ladies and gents, I seem to either have some gremlins at work or the worst luck in the world. I have recently replaced 3 wheels in a little over 2 years on my 545, I will preface that by saying I didn't get them from BMW I bought them from:
http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com
Out of the three wheels I bought one of them is from Detroit Wheel and Tire, please don't misunderstand my post into me badmouthing them by any means in terms of quality, I am just giving some back story. I know they are apples and oranges but I never had any cracked wheels on my Altima years ago, OEM or aftermarket ones. I have not hit any curbs, I swerve around potholes, although this winter it was harder due to the snow. I am not sure if I have another issue I need to consider looking into, perhaps suspension, or something else I haven't thought of. I am in the process of working out some details on some brand new wheels, Breyton, Avant Garde, or VMR's. I was wondering if perhaps some of the other members might of had this problem in the past or think of something I might be forgetting. When I got the first wheel replaced last year, the tech informed me that BMW has soft alloy wheels. Since this is my first BMW I don't know if that is the case or not, I do know that I am tired of spending the money to replace the wheels and I don't want to bring this issue with me to the new wheels. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

+1 for 124's being known to crack often. As far as DWT goes, I think I've only read one bad review about them, most have had good experiences with their refurbished wheels...
the obvious choice would be to upgrade to a set of forged wheels (oem or aftermarket). forged wheels are much stronger than cast wheels and have a less likely chance to bend crack. however if the pothole is big enough, nothing can save you...good luck

If you can afford them, go forged.

Unfortunately I don't know the number of the wheels they are the OEM for the 2005 545 with sport package. I believe they are the 124's because doing a google search shows me these:

I will definitely take a look into forged today although I thought the price was pretty steep for them, but will most certainly do my due diligence, with all the great wheel guys on the site.

Go wit the beyern wheels. The same thing happened to me, and I went ahead and purchased the RAPP wheels from beyern. They are in my sig. I luv them, and drove through the mean streets of Brooklyn. Oh their 19's.
