I would paint match it. To take off the mirror housing, you will need to pop off the mirror glass. To do this, push in one side and pull out the other.

You will probably need a small flat head screwdriver to push in the clamps to realease the cover. Their should be 4 clamps. GL!

Thanks AKAlius. Do you know if there is a DIY on this mirror housing with pictures? Any hidden screws?

my mirror cover came off just by prising it off with a screwdriver, pops right off, leaving the glass intact.

Got the new one painted and just push fitted it straight on.

Thanks for your posts/suggestions KAF & brabusw209amg. I am leaning towards just getting the OEM cover and getting it painted.

Perhaps a replica M5 mirror set? They cost about $450-$500 shipped and painted. I think it will look much better, and also only cost a bit more. IMO, I think it's worth it.

I'd go OEM in silver. If you want a body shop to go to I would highly recommend York Mills Auto Body on Leslie St. south of 401 in Toronto. The $14,125 repairs to my baby were absolutely excellent. They do a lot of work on BMW and MB.

I can't believe you didn't hear the stone hit the housing--it's quite a crack. Good luck on the decision. I'd probably go OEM painted or upgrade to M5 mirrors if you want to drop some cash.

Yeah, I was quite surprised myself! I normally hear every little bug that hits my windshield, yet alone stones that hit the car!
It might have been during the massive rain storms we have had lately...

I would really like to upgrade to M5 mirrors - but only if I can get the auto-fold feature. I know others on the forum have achieved this, but it was a lot of work and $$. Not sure if I can invest that. Is there a plug-and-play option now for auto-fold mirrors? If not, I'm probably going to order the OEM cover. I've got to make my decision by tomorrow.

thanks!
