I was cleaning my car and noticed a chunk of plastic missing from my driver side mirror cover. I guess a stone hit it and cracked it. When I initially saw it, I was a little bummed. But then, I realized that if the stone hit my car hard enough to crack that plastic cover, it might have been worse if it hit my windshield or frame. It should be easier to replace this plastic cover than having to deal with a cracked windshield or a decent sized dent.

Have any of you had to remove the side mirror cover? Does it just pop off or is there something I need to know about how it is secured?

I found the replacement part # to be 51-16-7-078-359. However, when I checked Tischer's site, there are 2 options. Mirror cover Left - W/electrochromic and Mirror cover Left - without electrochromic. I think I want the one with electrochromic right? But, I don't understand what difference the electrochromaic feature has to do with the mirror cover / housing?

Tischer's price is $58.66 so not too bad, but I have to get it painted.
By the way, want to know something crazy? If I purchase this from a Canadian dealership, the price is $119.15!

Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks!

Here are pictures of the damage:

How about something like this, just cover that up with a little carbon fiber!

Really? I hadn't considered that...

Guys, what do you think? Should I replace the covers with the carbon fiber? Price is not bad at $105 for both left & right. But would it look weird on my Titanium Silver?

Maybe not - in the April Roundel the new 335is has glossy black outside mirror covers too. I personally prefer the color match but it's an individual thing.

Thanks for your help and suggestion!

I actually also found another guy who had some pictures with the carbon fiber cover on the E60.
I'm still not totally sold, but I think it would look a little better on my car since I have the shadow line trim...

What do you think?

Thanks brabusw209amg. Did you by chance take pictures with those carbon fiber mirror covers?

I'm still thinking of just getting the oem mirror cover and getting it painted. But, I've got a few stone chips on my passenger mirror cover also. If I purchased those carbon fiber covers, I get 2 new covers for $100...
