I am in the market for a CPO'd 535. Fully understanding the current issues with the LPFP and HPFP, would you all consider this a good purchase? With all that I have read on multiple forums, I can't see BMW letting this issue go on for much longer by just adding warranty time. Something tells me there will be a permanent fix before long if they want to save face and maintain market share. Also, they are moving to turbos across all of their product line. If they don't fix this, it will ruin them.

Does anyone share the same sentiment? I mean, I can jump into a mint '08 or '09 low mile 535 right now. Save for the fuel pump issues, this car is exactly what I want.

I'd like to hear some opinions..

Thanks,

Mike

It's been an issue since 07..... why would they care now that the N55 is going in every thing...

Good point. Do you know what differentiates the N55 from the N54 outside of being set up for 1 turbo instead of 2? IS it utilizing a similar fuel pump setup?

There are so many 135 - 335 - 535 -x5 etc using this motor. Its gotta kill them to replace 2-3-4-5 HPFP for multiple customers. Kind of similar to the bearing issue o the s54 that was killing motors. Ultimately they issued a recall to resolve the issue.

I guess its wishful thinking. So in your opinion, should I let this issue deter me?

Get a CPO 550. The V8 is a wonderful engine. It has a power curve that is as flat as a table -- strong at all RPMs. And the N54 engine can't hold a candle to the V8's sound -- especially if you pair it with a RPI exhaust.

Of course, bolt on mods given the V8 only a modest power increase while a tune/ECU reflash of the N54 can yield a 100 plus bhp gain.

I agree with above, get a 550i. I purchased a 535i now I wish I would have forked over the extra dough and gotten a 550i. All the money spent on mods I could have easily gotten one and had plenty left over lol 550i > 535i

The OP may also want to check out a used E60 M5. The prices on them have dropped dramatically in the last few years and they are now very affordable.

I adore my 550 but it is no M5.

Note that the torque curve is as flat as a pancake -- tons of torque all over the RPM range. And the horsepower curve is very linear -- more revs = a steady building of power with no real peaks and valleys. It is such a driveable engine that is strong everywhere.

I love my 535, good stock power, great mileage. You can make M5 power if you want to. No fuel pump issues. 45k miles
