Yes, but you can get an RS 4 for close to the 550i price. The price difference would be so negligble depening on how equipped that I would never consider the 550i. Unfortunately, I like the 550i styling better. Then, there is the Audi autoshifter. But, OK, no 550i for me without 40 or so more hp. Can you tell me what is most significant about the article? I can't figure out anything in German unless it is in a table. Is a sechszylinder about the same thing as a slut in the US? I have to admit that I don't like the realtively low torquiness of the RS 4--as with the M5. But, the RS 4 seems to get the job done, while the M5 needs another 50 hp to be competitive in its class. It still won't work. It's competitors can easily add another 50 hp. I have a philosophy here. If you can't hack it in the hp class you are in, then change the engine not the class.

Hi Zman.I just can't see myself in the RS4.I really like the looks and the interior on the Audi's,but I can't get past the all wheel drive. It sucks horsepower.I have a SUV for bad weather so I don't need the allwheel drive for my daily driver.I also don't want front wheel drive which is what the Audi would be if it dropped the Quattro.

Yes, AWD can be an issue. The recent test I read mentioned the problem of no beneficial launch wheel spin given the high temp, humidity and altitude. I would have those problems. But, the car still did 4.6, 13.2, and 109.0. The test was from MT so presumably the results were weather adjusted. If altitude adjusted, the numbers would show how good the run really was. Using our usual procedures of adjusting for weather and altitude to 500', here is what I get:

Your results:
E.T. 12.981 (sec)
Trap Speed 110.878 (mph)
Measured DA 0 (feet)
Corrected to 500(feet) DA
Corrected ET 13.05 (sec)
Corrected Trap Speed 110.285 (mph)

Basically, in skilled hands, I think the car is a sub 13 sec. car at 500' under standard weather conditions.

The Aug issue of R&T had an article pitching the RS4 against a Carrera 4S and it clocked the RS4 at 4.3 0-60 with quarter mile of 12.8@ 109.7mph. I love the RS4 but the only thing is that it's kinda cramped.

Right, Audi RS4 RT 8/06 4.3 12.8 109.7, proves my point sort of. I ignored these numbers because RT does not adjust for weather or altitiude, and I have no idea about the weather/altitude conditions during the test. If adjusted, the 12.8 easily could get better or move above 13.

I know the RS4 is faster than our 545's,but with the all wheel drive I feel like I would still leave something on the table.I would always have the feeling that it could run low 12's if it was rear wheel drive.

I understand what you are expressing. But, you may be being a little optimistic. Consiser:

C5 Z06--3100 lbs/400 hp = 7.75 and yields low 12's.

Audi RS4-- 3900 lbs/420 hp = 9.29. Low 12's?
