So my maintenance warranty is up in the middle of December. I just got my rear breaks done a couple of months ago and the service guy said come back before the warranty is up and we should be able to take care of the front. I go today and another service guy told me unless the idrive tells them to do it then they cant and I have 7500 miles to go before I replace the front brakes. To me its extremely weird that the rear breaks are changed before the front. I would say I drive about 8000 miles a year. I bought the 2005 5 series in April of 2006 and that was the last time the front breaks were put on. So i am having them check my i drive to make sure its operating correctly and for them to double check the pads and rotors when its in there. Odds are im sure im out of luck and they won't change them but who knows? Anyone have experience on this? Secondly, I have read the forums that with an update on software that the 5 series can play mp3 cd's. I told this to my service guy and he had no idea of it and has never heard of it unless it was a newer (2008) 5 series. Does anyone have a bulletin or a place I can find out if my car is elligible? Thanks for your help!

-Sam

It says:
MODEL E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation from SOP to 9/29/05 vehicle production.

Now what is SOP? I think my car was made in July of 2004 or somewhere around then. Thanks

SOP = Start Of Production, which was late 2003... If you have Navigation the software update will work for you.

Edit: Sorry, just read your sig, no mention of Nav so I don't think you'll be able to get it done. Try one of the iPod options, either the BMW offering or the Dennison Gateway. I had the BMW option which worked well for me though there are some limits. Other have used the Gateway as well...

So people with Navigation are the only ones that can get mp3 to read? I do not have navigation in my car.

Unfortunately that's correct. From SOP until 09/05, BMW used two different computer systems for Nav equipped cars (CCC computer) and non-Nav cars (M-ASK computer). The computers used in Nav equipped cars were more robust/advanced to handle the Nav and could accept the software update to enable MP3 playback. After September 2005, all cars used the CCC computer and can therefore play MP3's...

If you do more highway driving than city driving the rear brakes wear faster. Also if you tend to trail brake like myself the rears wear faster as well.
