Coolant hose under oil filter housing coming loose
My coolant hose that attaches just beneath and to the right of the oil filter housing has come loose twice in the past couple of weeks. The previous owner had used just a regular plumbing hose clamp on it. The end of the hose where it attaches seems kind of stretched out and loose.
Is this simply a worn out hose that needs to be replaced, or could there be some sort of flow problem that is causing pressure to build up at that spot? Any help on this will be appreciated! |
Don't see why even a worn out hose would slip off with a clamp on it. I'm assuming you are taking about something like this: http://www.hcl-clamping.com/cw4/imag...m-saej1670.jpg

Yep, exactly like that.
After further investigation, I believe it is the Upper Radiator Hose that has failed. Where the plumbing clamp is it should be a permanent clamp. It must have come loose and the previous owner put the clamp on it. Th hose is so swollen and loose it just won't stay on any more. Kinda blows because I just flushed and refilled my cooling system with proper BMW blue coolant, and it lost about a gallon of it when hose came loose. Back to the $tealership......... |
I have the same problem recently. The hose broke off at the clamp, lost a lot of fluid. I had it towed to my indy to replace the hose (a long hose that runs all the way down to the lower radiator hose). I also flushed the coolant system. Been running ok since.

Yes, it was the Upper Radiator Hose that had worn out. I bought one at the dealer for about $85, and replaced it myself in about 20 minutes. Very easy. On the N54 engine, the URH connections are all at the top of the motor. I think that is a sign that it's time for a cooling system overhaul. |
Replacement intervals for coolant hoses are about every 4 year. I replaced all hoses 2 years ago and still that one broke on me.
