Keeping the coolant level at around the MIN mark will greatly extend the life of the coolant tank, according to Mike Miller of Roundel magazine. This was verified by a BMW master mechanic who said that he has serviced many 300,000 plus miles BMWs with original coolant tanks who's owners had followed that advice.
I started running with coolant at the MIN mark, and we shall see. At 50K miles now.
