i know i'm going to rattle a few hornet's nests, but a mechanic friend of mine told me i can just dump my old radiator coolant down the sewer because with the new coolant it is environmentally friendly (unlike the old poisonous stuff). i also read on another thread how bmw coolant is environmentally friendly.

ok so what do you guys think about dumping "environmentally friendly" coolant and washing it down with a water hose?

All that means is that it is not "AS" toxic as regular coolant, it is still very poisonous and your friend is a complete moron. One gallon of coolant pollutes 10,000 gallons of water, once that water source gets polluted it is pretty much f****d.

At least you asked. We have a few autoparts shops in town that allow you dump old oil and coolant for free. Can't hurt to ask

If you dump it in your sewer all you're going to do is pollute the drinking water source in your area, so yeah good choice.

I just purchased a 15 qt catch container. There is an AutoZone nearby that collects used motor oil and such.

if a business sells oil or coolant, i believe they are required to also accept used stuff. This may be a state by state thing.

Really? Then pretty much any gas station would have to accept it. That would make it pretty simple....What state do you live in?
