My dad has then on his e550 mb and on that car, in an 18" tire, they're pretty good?

The X5 went in for her service it had Continentals. I mentioned to check the balance and when I collect the car there were a new set of michelins on it. They said they had an issue with flat spots... But for the price on the tires I bought I figured what the heck, give it a try. It they have a little vibration I might can deal with this otherwise I swap them out quickly and go back to the Michelins.

his michelins are the pilot sport a/s [see reference below]. i can't risk the problems associated with the contis, even with the cost factor. love new tires, but hate paying for them. so, will be purchasing the michelins even though $60+ more per tire.

I had absolutely no problems with them. They handled great on my 550 when I had it in the snow and cold weather best. I sold them barely used and I have heard no complaints from him either. This is the first time I'm hearing of "flat spots" . Overall they are a great all season tire. In my opinion.

Now the question is do I go with the DWS for the comfort and somewhat longer life or the DW with better handling but shorter life.... or go with Michelins that may or may not be worth the extra $$? Have a dedicated set of winters so snow is not a big issue but would like to be on the 172's a little longer throughout the year. I'm sure all of them will be better than the SportContact 2's I had. No problem with grip, they just wore down in less than 8k miles.

From what I have read these tires need to be inflated closer to 36 psi instead of the lower recommended pressure.

I will be getting the dw and dws for my e60's. I am not racing, mainly for street driving so ok with the softer sidewall compared to the ps2's

I'm expecting that these Conti's will last about the same as my Michelins have. $60.00 would not have been a factor to discuss but when I look at the overall cost differenece of 750.00 I have no problem trying them out. If they work out well, I will use them again. I do prefer the tread patteren on the Mich's though.

Can you elaborate more on why it's best to have them around 36psi?

Never heard of flat spots either. Days or even a week can go by and the car would drive with no vibrations.

You can google "continental dws flat spot" and read others experiences. I cannot elaborate since I am in the same predicament as to which tire to select.

If increasing tire pressure solves the flat spotting then I am ok with adding additional air in the tires.

Oh yeah one observation was that people living in regions with more temp changes where it may get closer or below freezing are more likely to have the issue.

Since I don't have the conti's I wonder if someone who has can check with continental or maybe you can look up on conti's site as to recommended pressure for you tire.
