Yea im considering in buying a 530i but i want a 545i if money premits...probably a 2004.. a few concerns are reliablity... other then electronic problems is the engine and tranny (6spd) solid... i herd the coolant system on older 5 series were bad... and how bout VANOS and cam Sensor i herd something about those to.. thanks.....the other car i am considering is the M35 but the only reason im not jumping on that is because it doesnt come in 6spd or i would already have picked one up....

With the high trade-in/up ratios for the e60 I'm sure you could find a good car a BMW dealer, where I would strongly rcommend CPO. There is a realtively large power difference between the 530 vs 545. Test drive both and see if it is important enough to you to pay the extra $$ for the V8. The 6 has a very satisfying amount of power and you can use some of the saved $$ to mod...........V8s rock though !
Good Luck !

The E39 V8 issues seem to have been addressed in the E60 but the E60 has its own issues (window motors, software etc) CPO is the only way to go on these cars. They are just so complicated. My recommendation is buy the best CPO car you can afford. If that is the V8, you will be that much happier.
A good freind traded is E39 525i sport for a M35x, nice car but he misses his BMW. If you like to drive it's just not the same...

When new it was hard to justify the V8 cost vs. the straight six but used is a whole different story. The 530 is a beautiful balanced car, the 545 is a rocket, it really flies and the low end torque is amazing.

You are not going to want a 2004 530i. It's severely underpowered at 225 hp. Look around for a 545i, I'm sure you can find one within your budget.

I would rather have a BMW 530 than a faster Infiniti, Lexus whatever...

Thanks for the input guys.....I really like these cars and have driven the M35 but the BMW wins me over... but CPO V8 is going to be way too much.(got to keep searching) the tranny and Engine are soild right... like i know on Audi they have Timming belt problems....
The six cylinder power train is the same as the 3 series 330 and other BMW models. There are bazillions of them out there running problem free.

Engine and tranny's are very solid especially the six cylinder cars. Don't ever mention Audi reliability in the same breath as BMW again ...just kidding
