Yesterday my girlfriend was driving my car with her keys. When we switched drivers, I put my key in and all of a sudden all of the milage measurements (miles to services and miles to empty tank) were in kilometers not miles despite having I-drive indicate that the unit were in miles. After a while, the car started displaying in miles again. Does anyone know what caused this hiccup?

easy fix, don't let her drive your e60 and take back the key ....

BTT: perhaps interchanging the confused it temporarily...

Good thing she is looking over my shoulder as I am typing this. I would not take away the key - she has got a nice ride too and I want to drive it - an E 350 4 matic .

I think it might have been the interchanging - still weird. My thought was that the computer was temporarily celebrating Octoberfest!

Do you have the idrive set up to recognize both keys as separate driver profiles? The car will allow you to set up different profiles for each key if you enable that function.

It's simple, your car knows your touch and evidently does not like your girlfriend's! So it's speaking in tongues and generally just waiting for you to come back and take over the controls!

Really, where is this setting? Is this perhaps something new on the LCIs?

For my car, it was the factory default. The second key comes with its own presets (or none).

The setting is under the vehicle settings in the idrive menu. There is an option to let the idrive to link the current settings to the key that is in the ignition. You can choose to activate/deactivate it. It's in the owner's manual, too.
