Why did you go for a SE over a sport model? Do you prefer the looks of the SE?

Basically, a few factors, one being price. I didn't think it was worth the extra ?7K.
Second was the kit mix, part of which I didn't want. The interior alucube trim I think looks terrible. Reminds me of a cheap Dr Who set. The dazzle factor was just too high. Hi db so to speak. And I wasn't going to pay for wood (which I didn't want) just to get rid of the alucube. Nor did I want the anthracite headlining with the colour of the seats I was planning on (amethyst). I wanted a lighter colour headlining with the antracite/black lower trim bits such as carpets and door cappings.
Thirdly, front is OK but I think the rear bumper/valence looks terrible on the sport. Looks like a kid with fully laden pampers.
Fourthly, the drive. I test drove a 535d sport (in May) just to get a feel of the suspension. I thought it handled incredibly well with little roll in to corners. And it steered perfectly (servotronic). Although the ride wasn't as bad as I thought, it was still jarring and the RF's sort of noisy.
In June I test drove a 523i SE with servotronic. Although it was softer than the sport, it steered just as well. It imparted quite a high proportion of the feel that I got in the 535d sport so a lot of that was down to the servotronic rather than the suspension.
So, the best compromise for me was a 523i SE (glorious engine and not doing the mileage to warrant a diesel engine) with sport seats, servotronic and Pirelli non run flat tyres.
And what I saved on the sport, I invested in leather and auto. They'll keep their value when the time come to sell on. I've had cars in the past with sport/stiff suspension and now it's time to sample a hint of quiet luxury instead. It's a sign of getting older.

Hope that answers your query.
