Hey whats up guys....
OK guys I know theres tons of noobs on here asking about the AFI type intake for their 5 series because they yearn for that "Rice Burner" intake sound. I consider myself a noob as well due to the fact that I am constantly learning new things on this forum thanks to all the knowledgable people willing to help guys like me everyday. I am a full 100% fan of the BMC filter due to the research behind it and quality. But can someone please tell me HOW it is different?
If im driving at 70mph on the freeway in 35 degree weather in my city, how can the AFI be considered a HEAT SOAK intake? That 35 degree air is slamming right into my grill and being sucked into my engine at 70mph so to speak. How can it have enough time to become hot air, and actually hurt performance? I can understand rolling in LA traffic at idle spead, the air would be lingering around and becoming hot. But how does it affect performance at higher speed??
Thanks in advance for whoever it is that kicks some knowledge to me =) have a good day everyone!!

the BMC is used as a replacement air filter in the stock airbox. the AFE intake is an open-air cone intake, and the heat shields were not effective, so air from the engine itself was being sucked into the intake leading to a loss in power.
